The Rouvas Forest is located in the centre of the Island of Crete between the provinces of Heraklion and Rethymnon.

Day activity:
Setting off from Heraklion early in the morning by coach and passing through Anogia, a typical Cretan Village, to arrive at Shinaka where the Crete observatory is situated at an altitude of 1,770 metres. Starting from Shinaka a walk to the Koudouni area then commencing the descent through the Rouvas Forest famed for its flora, oak, cedar and the Anegnoron tree (unique to Crete). Resting at Agios Yannis Church - a picturesque Greek Orthodox Church built next to a stream. Passing through the Tafari Gorge - not a large, but extreme beautiful - leading to the monastery of Agios Nikolaos. The monks will extend a welcome with some raki, typical Cretan schnapps. Being rejuvenated by the raki and the hospitality of the monks, Zaros Lake is only half an hour away for lunch in a local taverna then the coach will return you to Heraklion.
