This tour introduces you to all aspects of Greece, from the highlights of
the ancient world to its magnificent landscapes and significant religious
heritage. The metropolis, Athens and the archaeological sites such as
Delphi and Olympia are a “must” when visiting Greece.
Day 1: Italy-Greece Boarding-
Departure of the ferry in the evening. Overnight stay on Board.
Day 2: Arrival in Patras -
Monasteries of Agia Lavra and Mega Spileon -Olympia (approx. 200 km) Upon arrival in Patras we journey along the Korinthian Channel to Diakofto. From here we cross the wild and romantic Voraikos Golf by cable car to Kalavrita and from there again by bus to the Monastery of Agia Lavra. On the way back we visit the cave-monastery Mega Spileon, the oldest monastery in Greece and from there we journey to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Overnight stay in the area of Olympia.
Day 3: Olympia-Athens (approx. 285 km)
We visit the archaeological site of Olympia where the Olympic Games were born and took place every four years. Our journey takes us through beautiful mountainous landscapes, the Plateau of Tripolis and over the Corinthian Channel to Athens, the colourful Greek metropolis. Overnight stay in Athens.
Day 4: Athens and Cape Sounion. (approx. 60 km)
Today we visit the Akropolis and its Museum. Around noon we wander around the old town of Athens, Plaka where we can stay for lunch. In the afternoon we journey along the coast of Attica to Cape Sounion where we visit the Temple of Poseidon and watch a beautiful sunset. From there we go to the village Koropi for a traditional meal with local dishes and as much wine as your heart desires! We then return to our hotel in Athens
Day 5: Athens - Monastery of Osios Loukas - Delphi (approx 160km)
Through an impressive landscape, over Levadia, to the Byzantine monastery of Osios Loukas. The monastery is one of the most significant locations in Greece. It offers a wonderful view over the Helikon and the surrounding area. From there we continue through Arahova, a picturesque mountain village, to Delphi, the centre of the ancient Greek world to visit the archaeological site. Overnight stay in the area of Delphi.
Day 6: Delphi-Kalambaka-Ioannina. (approx. 330 km)
In the monring we journey to Kalambaka to visit the impressive Meteora-Monasteries. These cathedrals were built by Orthodox hermits on the summit of vertical cliffs, “somewhere between heaven and earth”. From there over Metsovon, another beautiful mountain village on the cliff of Mt Pindos, to Ioannina. Overnight stay in Ioannina.
Day 7: Ioannina-Igoumenitsa for boarding (approx. 95 km)
In the monring you have the opportunity to visit Byzantine churches of the town with there amazing decoration of frescoes. We then move to the second largest ancient oracle of Dodoni where we visit the Theatre. From there we continue through the wonderful mountainous landscape of Epirus to Igoumenitsa, the picturesque medieval town on the west coast of Greece to board the ferry. Overnight stay on board.
Day 8: Arrival in Italy - Journey home.
The ferry trip from Patras to Ancona is an unforgettable experience. The ships are fully equipped with modern facilities to ensure a pleasurable journey. Swimming pools, restaurants, bars, discos, casinos, sun-decks, shops, comfortable, modern cabins and of course air-conditioning throughout the ship.
